Drone Field Capture Checklist & Troubleshooting Guide

Fix gaps, blur, and failed renders in photogrammetry models, plus pre-flight, capture, and pre-upload checklists for drone survey teams.

Gaps in the Model

One of the most common causes is low overlap, or a surface not being sufficiently visible from some angles.

  • Reshoot the problem area.
  • Increase overlap.
  • Make extra passes over roof edges, corners, and vertical surfaces.

Hard Shadows and High Contrast

  • Re-shoot in softer light if possible.
  • Reduce shadow/sun transitions.
  • Discard overly dark or overexposed frames.

Blurry Images

  • Increase shutter speed relative to drone speed.
  • Check stability in windy conditions.
  • Discard images with noticeable blur before uploading.

Render Failed

  • Check the data set for corrupt or missing files.
  • Upload very large data sets in chunks.
  • Check coverage and gaps with Preview.
  • If the issue persists, contact support with project information and, if available, the error message.

Connectivity and Chunked Upload

If your internet access is limited during upload, you don’t have to send the data in a single session. A workflow that allows uploading additional data to the input area after the project is created can be used.

Factors Affecting Render Time

  • Number of photos.
  • Photo resolution and file size.
  • Geometric complexity of the model.
  • Cloud processing capacity and current system load.

Stopping a Render and Refreshing the Data Set

A render can be canceled before it completes; additional images can then be uploaded to the data set and it can be reprocessed.

Snapping and Precise Measurement

To select the correct geometric point during measurement, zoom in enough on the model and reference distinct corners/edges where possible. Since snapping behavior can vary by version, check its current status in the Viewer interface you’re using.

Faulty Operations and Credit Refunds

For errors confirmed to originate from Render-a, contact the support team. According to the supplied technical document, a credit refund can be considered for Render-a-side issues such as a significant measurement deviation on a data set with preserved GPS data.

Before Upload

  • Blurry or clearly corrupted frames removed.
  • No mixed frames from different days/lighting conditions.
  • Files transferred without compression, with metadata preserved.
  • Data set checked with Preview.

Before Delivery

  • Measurements checked.
  • Panel layout and obstructions checked.
  • Export format matches the target software.
  • Report assumptions and customer information checked.
  • Logo/corporate identity correct.
